Glossary
Studded tires are a type of tire that can be used in winter. These are winter tires that, in addition to having a coarser tread like all winter tires, are equipped with studs. The studs consist of small metal spikes that protrude a small distance from the tread surface of the tire.
It is allowed to use studded tires during the period 1 October to 15 April. If there are or is feared to be winter road conditions, you may also use studded tyres at other times. If cars with a total weight of up to 3500kg have studded tyres, a trailer attached to the car must also have studded tyres in winter road conditions. This applies even if the vehicle is exempt from the requirement for winter tyres.
If the car has non-studded tires, a possible trailer may have either studded or non-studded winter tires. There must not be both studded and non-studded tires on the vehicle. Studded tyres on heavy vehicles must always be on the same axle.
