Darkness
Darkness is the absence or lack of light rays. The darkest part of the day falls at night. Driving in the dark is extra risky and it is therefore important to keep the following in mind:
- Use high beams whenever possible, high beams illuminate the road about 150 meters ahead and are an easy way to get better visibility in the dark. Remember to turn off the high beams if necessary so as not to dazzle other road users.
- Pay attention to pedestrians, a pedestrian with reflectors can easily be seen from a long distance up to 100 meters away with dipped headlights, but a pedestrian without any reflectors can be difficult to spot before they are about 25 meters away with dipped headlights.
- Focus your gaze in the right place, if you have a meeting in the dark, you should focus your gaze obliquely to the right to avoid being dazzled.
- If you need to stop on the road in the dark, turn on your parking lights or set up a triangle to draw attention to other road users.
