Drug

Medicines are defined by the Medicines Act as goods with the purpose of "preventing, detecting, alleviating or curing disease or symptoms of disease or to be used for similar purposes".

Medicines are available as over-the-counter and prescription-only, where for example Advil is an over-the-counter medicine, while medicine you have been prescribed by a doctor or doctor is often prescription-only.

If you start taking a new medicine, it is important to read the package leaflet and see if it can be taken while driving. Some medicines have warnings where you should not drive or operate heavy machinery when taking them.
