Give precedence

Giving way means that you allow pedestrians, cyclists or other road users to drive ahead. If you have an obligation to give way, you must always give way. When you give way, you should always slow down well in advance to show that you will comply with the obligation to give way.

If you give way and the person you give way to does not react, you can try to signal with your hand that they are allowed to drive, or cross the road, for example.

Although it is good to give way in the right situations, there can sometimes be situations where drivers in several directions of travel at the same time give way to each other, resulting in a total stop in traffic. It is therefore important to be aware of the traffic rules that apply and to follow the give way obligations that apply at the given location.
