Highway

A country road is a road for vehicle traffic outside an urban area that is not a motorway. It is made for traffic in both directions and is thus a so-called two-lane road.

If there are no speed limit signs, 70 km/h is the base speed on country roads.

It is important to be aware of the risks of driving on country roads as this is where the vast majority of serious accidents occur. For example, there can be poor visibility, the proximity to nature means that animals can run up onto the roadway, and it is common to maintain a far too high speed.
