Understanding

What does understanding mean? We explain this slightly abstract concept and how it relates to you as a car driver and your behavior in traffic.

Understanding is a cognitive process related to an abstract or physical object, such as a person, situation, or message. In short, understanding is when you relate to another person's situation or point of view, or that you can put yourself in that person's situation. In traffic, understanding can mean, for example, stopping for a few extra seconds at a pedestrian crossing to let the next person pass, or that you brake if you drive through a large puddle of water so as not to splash water on pedestrians.
